Type Approvals, Certification & Compliance
The connectBlue product range consists of ready-to-use products and ready-to-embed modules that are certified and fully tested to fit the toughest of situations in industrial and medical applications.
The product range has tailored features including extended temperature range (spanning from -40o to +85oC), built-in watchdog timer for secure system design, and faultless operation 24/7 even in environments with harsh conditions of EMC conditions, dust, humidity, temperature variations, and rapid movement changes.
In order to offer superior wireless solutions, the products are continuously fine-tuned and tested to get the best performance as well as controlled latency, throughput and power consumption.

Radio Type Approvals
Radio type approval requirements differ per country and in order for a product to be sold in a particular market, it is important they meet the minimum set of regulatory, technical and safety requirements specified for that market. Below are the main type approval certifications per market for connectBlue products. The full test reports for each connectBlue module are available on request for our customers.
FCC Part 15 (Type Approval USA)
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the regulatory agency and standards body for radio type approval in the US.
All connectBlue products are FCC type approved and follow Part 15 of the FCC rules that states that all electronic devices with a clock or oscillator exceeding 9 kHz need to be verified that they are not causing harmful radiated emissions and interference on regulated frequencies. Customers that embed connectBlue modules need to label the end products with the FCC ID number if they wish to market the product in FCC regulated markets.

ETSI R&TTE (Type Approval Europe)
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) is the standards body for radio type approval in Europe. The Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) encompasses all products using the radio frequency spectrum and all equipment attached to public telecommunications networks. CE marking is a mandatory conformance mark on products on the European market and in order to use the CE Mark one need to demonstrate compliance with the R&TTE directive.
All connectBlue products comply with the R&TTE directive 1999/5/EC and EN 300 328 or EN 301 893 .

MIC – formerly TELEC (Type Approval Japan)
Wireless equipment to be used in Japan must be type approved by assigned certification bodies according to Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC). Formerly these certificates were only issued by TELEC, but now there are more registered certification bodies that can issue these certificates once proper testing is completed by specifically appointed laboratories.
Customers that embed connectBlue modules need to mark the connectBlue module with the MIC ID number if they wish to market the product in the Japanese markets.

IC RSS (Type Approval Canada)
The Industry Canada (IC) is the regulatory agency and standards body for Canada. IC certification testing is typically conducted simultaneously with FCC certification testing using the same antennas and transmit power and covering the same frequency bands.
All connectBlue products are IC approved according to the Radio Standards Specification (RSS). Customers that embed connectBlue modules need to label the end products with the IC ID number if they wish to market the product in IC regulated markets.

Certifications & Compliance
Besides following radio type approvals requirements, connectBlue products also comply with the standards that are needed for the high demands on wireless in medical and industrial applications.
Bluetooth Qualification
Any products carrying the Bluetooth trademarks (wordmark and / or figuremark) must have undergone the Bluetooth Qualification Program and the owner of these products must be a member of the Bluetooth SIG and have signed the Bluetooth Trademark Agreement (BTLA).
All connectBlue Bluetooth products have been qualified according to its corresponding Bluetooth Specification (currently Classic Bluetooth 2.1+EDR or Bluetooth 4.0 with Bluetooth low energy).

Wireless LAN / WLAN / Wi-Fi Certification
A product based on Wireless LAN (WLAN) IEEE 802.11 a, b, g, n is also commonly referred to as a Wi-Fi product. A WLAN product does not need a certain certification; however, for a product to bear the Wi-Fi trademarks (wordmark and / or figuremark), the owner of these products must be a member of the Wi-Fi Alliance. Though connectBlue currently is not a Wi-Fi Alliance member, all connectBlue WLAN products follow the IEEE 802.11 standard.

UL/cUL
The Underwriters Laboratories (UL) sets safety standards, tests, and provides certification for a wide range of products. The UL/cUL listing mark certifies that the complete product has been tested by UL according to set safety standards and found it to be free from risk of fire, electric shock and related hazards in the US and Canada. The connectBlue Access Point and Ethernet Port Adapters are listed for hazardous location UL/CSA Class 1 Div 2.
