{"id":9328,"date":"2014-01-10T20:00:55","date_gmt":"2014-01-10T19:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/catai.net\/blog\/?p=9328"},"modified":"2014-01-11T10:07:54","modified_gmt":"2014-01-11T09:07:54","slug":"webrtc-client-open-source-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/catai.net\/blog\/2014\/01\/webrtc-client-open-source-project\/","title":{"rendered":"WebRTC client open source project."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.webrtc.org\/\">WebRTC<\/a><\/strong> is a protocol that enables browser-to-browser and browser-to-server communications, making web pages much more responsive, app-like, and real-time.<\/p>\n<p>It provides a <strong>standardized API<\/strong> to the functions of a real-time communication device, built into a web browser, simplifying video &amp; audio communications that until now, were only possible using dedicated applications and devices.\u00a0 Its origins come from W3C and IETF solidifies its credentials.<\/p>\n<p>To date only Firefox, Opera, and Chrome \u2014 which, arguably, accounts for more than half of all web browsing \u2014 support WebRTC.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ro3FFNx7d-g\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Having an API\u00a0 does not mean that problems of packet-based video and audio transport over the Internet \u00a0(congestion control, rate control, error resilience, error concealment&#8230;)had been solved.<\/p>\n<p>This is partially solved with <a href=\"https:\/\/catai.net\/blog\/2013\/04\/medicina-4t-y-vydio\/\">Vidyo<\/a>. In August 2013\u00a0announced that it has signed an agreement with Google to enhance video quality in web-native applications that do not require any plugins or special software. This will be implemente in <strong>Google VP9<\/strong>, while Apple and Microsoft are sticking to H.264 and its successor, H.265. Both have the potential to improve online video while decreasing required bandwidth, but H.264\/5 has royalty payments associated with it, while VP8\/9 is intended to be <strong>free and open<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the agreement, Google will license Vidyo\u2019s scalable video coding extensions for use in its free and <strong>open source VP9 video codec<\/strong>, which will be used as part of the <strong>WebRTC client open source project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In fact\u00a0Vidyo already <a href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2012\/07\/23\/vidyo-google-hangouts-videoconferencing-business\/\">provides the software that powers Google Hangouts<\/a> on Google+.<\/p>\n<p>Further information in <a href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2013\/08\/28\/webrtc-gets-a-boost-google-taps-vidyo-to-build-better-web-native-video\/\">WebRTC <\/a>\u00a0,\u00a0in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediatelecom.com.mx\/index.php\/tecnologia\/internet\/item\/56931-youtube-realizara-streaming-en-4k-durante-el-ces-con-el-codec-vp9#!\">Alternativa de google al codec H.265<\/a>\u00a0and in <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.vidyo.com\/technology\/deploying-webrtc-straight-ahead-with-two-sharp-turns\/\">Vidyo<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WebRTC is a protocol that enables browser-to-browser and browser-to-server communications, making web pages much more responsive, app-like, and real-time.
